Ravintsara and Ravensara are 2 wonderful essential oils. Before I started school for aromatherapy I didn’t even know Ravensara existed!

Ravensara it isn’t as readily available as Ravintsara. Since it has such excellent healing properties, it’s worth putting it in your essential oil arsenal. They both come from Madagascar and are steam distilled from the leafy parts, but have significant differences for usage.

Ravintsara, Cinnamomun camphora ct. 1,8 cineole

The main chemical constituent is 1,8 cineole. Being that constituen is over 50%, it is not recommend for use with children under 10. Ravintsara is said to soothe anxiety and stress, relieve depression, reduce fear and support self confidence. Ravintsara can also help with pain and inflammation, is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antispasmodic, antiviral, a decongestant, expectorant, supports the immune system, and can increase cerebral blood flow. This oil is best used when you are feeling ill due to a cold or bronchial infection. Please be cautious if you have asthma, 1,8 cineole can bring on an asthma attack.

Ravensara, Ravensara aromatica

Unlike Ravintsara, Ravensara is safe for children under 10 because it does not contain 1,8 cineole. It can activate white blood cells, helps with pain, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiobesity (helps to counter obesity), antioxidant, antitumoral (can inhibit the growth of tumors), antiulcerogenic (helps in preventing the onset of ulcers), immunostimulant (can boost immune system), skin penetration enhancer (can help other essential oils be absorbed by the skin.

As you can see, the two oils are quite different while both have excellent healing properties. I err on the side of caution and always will. Please be careful with using essential oils and always dilute them. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me at melissa@sweetwillowspirit.com.

Have a wonderful day!

Love and light,

Melissa
