Essential Oils for Hair Growth?

I have heard for years that Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) essential oil is good for hair growth. In January of 2015, Pubmed.org published a study of Rosemary oil vs minoxidil 2% for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia: a randomized comparative trial. "In contrast, both groups experienced a significant increase in hair count at the 6-month endpoint compared with the baseline and 3-month endpoint". Click on the above like to learn more.

Even the Tisserand Institute put out this graphic regarding Rosemary.

With every pregnancy, I would experience male pattern baldness. Due to the hormone fluctuations, I would lose a lot of the hair at my part, just above my temples. Thankfully I had long hair and was able to cover it up, hiding my embarrassment. Unfortunately that meant no ponytails or pulling my hair back of any kind. I didn't know about Rosemary oil back then, I wish I would have.

Around October of 2016, I decided to do an experiment. I made my own shampoo. If you are part of my subscriber list, you would have received the recipe in one of my newsletters. I was shocked! After using the shampoo 2-3 times a week for 2 months, I couldn't believe the amount of hair growth! It was already filling in where I had lost the hair during my last pregnancy. Before, it took years to do this. Plus it made the rest longer, in that short amount of time.

In this picture, you can see where my "baby" hairs are growing now and filling in, as well as the length. It was above the ear 5 weeks before this picture was taken. I have never had it grow so fast, even my stylist commented. I was so happy! Something that took me years to achieve, took only months to see a difference!

However, I don't love the "greasy", weighted down feel it gives my hair. But hey, if it grows, I will take it. During the winters, my hair is full of static and dry, and the summer, frizzy. This shampoo helps to combat that. I also don't have an itchy scalp, or dandruff, and it makes my hair very shiny.

With that said, I need to caution you. This recipe is full of essential oils, only in a 2% dilution, but still, it has them. I have talked before about not using essential oils "just because". You don't need to use them daily unless it is for a specific medical purpose and a short amount of time. Anything longer than a week or 2, ask yourself why you are doing it. Less is more in the essential oil industry. If you do decide to try this recipe, since I am not a licensed medical doctor, I would make sure I was not using it more than 2-3 times a week.

I cannot guarantee you will see the same results. If you choose to make this, please do so at your own risk. Be careful not to get it in your eyes or in sensitive areas, it could burn.
