Are you Using Essential Oils TOO Much?

Lately, I have had a lot of friends coming up to me telling me how much they love their oils and are using them, a lot. THAT'S AWESOME! I love that essential oils are so wonderful and beneficial. However, too much of a good thing is NOT a good thing.

It is possible to use them too much", and too often. Essential oils are "nature's medication and can be as powerful as medication. You don't pop a pill for just anything, you shouldn't use essential oils for just anything either.

I know people who diffuse in their bedroom, All. Night. Long. This is not beneficial, you might be severely interrupting your sleep. By diffusing improperly, you can over stimulate your central nervous system to the point that it is actually keeping you awake. You may wake more tired than when you went to bed, be dizzy, have nausea, racing heart, or other issues. It is never beneficial for you or your loved ones to sleep in a room with a diffuser running all night long. The rule of thumb is 30 minutes on, 60 minutes off, especially in small, closed room such as this. If you want to diffuse at bedtime, turn the diffuser on for 30 minutes before you go to bed and close the door. When you go to bed, shut it off and allow the oils to help you feel drowsy and fall asleep normally. Please do not get up and turn it on again, it isn't needed.

With winter around the corner and school starting again, germs and sickness will be running rampant. That DOES NOT mean you should use an essential oil blend to boost your immune system daily. Unless you have a compromised immune system, you should be able to fight illness fairly well. By adding oils to your body daily, you are doing yourself a disservice if they are not needed. When you are truly sick, and actually need them, you may have built up an immunity to those oils and they will not work as they should.

A lot of friends make their own products such as deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. Don't forget the use of these products which contain essential oils are being used daily. Then add in a blend you are hoping will help to boost your immune system, maybe a blend for aches and pains, possibly a head-ache blend and look what you have. Way too much going on and possible over dose.

We cannot use essential oils to make up for our poor lifestyle. Food and exercise play a big part in how our body is functioning. Don't forget to look at stress, and energy stuck in the body too. If we eat too many carrots we could turn our skin and eyes orange, and hinder the absorption of beneficial nutrients. Or if we drink too much water, we could develop hyponatremia, the removal of too much sodium from the body that may be fatal. Anything in excess is never a good thing.

Please, please educate yourself on the power of essential oils and how to use them. If you haven't already done so, please read our blog about their power here.
