Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea) is a perennial herb that grows from May to September and considered a close relative of the common garden sage. It is a beautiful oil that has a musky, herbal, sharp, and warm scent. To me, it smells like laying in a field of clover in the sunshine. Clary sage is steam distilled from the leaves and flowers of the plant, and considered a top - middle note.

According to Wikipedia.com, "Salvia sclarea, the clary or clary sage, is a biennial or short-lived herbaceous perennial in the genus Salvia. It is native to the northern Mediterranean Basin, along with some areas in north Africa and Central Asia. The plant has a lengthy history as a medicinal herb, and is currently grown for its essential oil."

In an article published June 20, 2017 on Healthline.com, Clary Sage is beneficial for stress reduction, reducing menstrual cramps, has antibacterial properties, may alleviate menopausal symptoms and is a natural anti-depressant.

Webmd.com states that Clary sage may be used for upset stomach, other digestive disorders, kidney disease and tumors.

An article was published on pubmed.org, regarding "The effect of clary sage oil on staphylococci responsible for wound infections. The conclusion was "Because of its antimicrobial properties clary sage oil may be applied to treat wounds and skin infections".

As you can see it is a wonderful plant that can do so much. It tends to be on the more expensive side in the essential oil world, but don't let that deter you. Remember, a little goes a long way.
