Elemi (Canarium luzonicum), is by far one of my most favorite essential oils! It ranks up there with lavender and clary sage. Elemi is a beautiful oil that has a fresh, citrusy, and tart scent. When I first smelled it, it made me think of citrusy pickles. It has a strong dill and citrus element. The Elemi tree is a relative of Frankincense and Myrrh and native to the Philippians and some neighboring nations. It exudes a yellow, honey like resin which is steam distilled and considered a top to middle fragrance note. According to Wikipedia.com, "Elemi is used as a herbal medicine to treat bronchitis, catarrh, extreme coughing, mature skin, scars, stress, and wounds."

I was first introduced to this oil 2015 when I had liver surgery. It was a tremendous help afterward. Since Elemi is a relative of Frankincense, it has the similar healing abilities.

Fun Fact:

The Egyptians were known to use the resin from elemi oil in the embalming process.
